Colorado Land and Home Company - Myrtle Hill School Site

In the spring of 2005, CLHC entered into a contract to purchase the former Myrtle Hill School property in the heart of the Washington Park East neighborhood, with the intent of redeveloping the functionally obsolete school into 18 single family detached homes, in line with the current zoning. On the eve of CLHC's closing to purchase this property, a group of activists filed an application to designate the property a historic landmark, preventing CLHC's from demolishing the existing buildings and blocking CLHC's ability to redevelop the property. The Kenney Group was instrumental in bringing the preservationist group to the table, and in working with the community, staff and elected officials to affect a compromise through which CLHC may redevelop the property with a combination of single family homes, town homes and loft-style condominiums in a portion of the former school building.
